I love to travel, but whenever I go somewhere, my eyes stop at the walls and front elevations. I become obsessed with the color painted on the walls or the case wall paneling. In many places, I’ve seen wallpapers that look pretty good, but wall paneling has its own fun. Wall panelling that looks like brick and shiplap creates a natural look on the walls. It looks like natural walls. In this blog post, we will learn how we panelled the walls.
When I decided to panel my walls, I was nervous but excited. With a few tools, some planning, and a bit of trial and error, I created a design that transformed my space.
It was October 25, 2024, when I went to my friend’s house. He said to me that,
There, I suggested wall panelling to him. Because I am a DIY enthusiast myself, and DIY panelling is a serious process, which I am quite interested in. I couldn’t have done it without learning. I consulted my friend and hired a craftsman. We searched Google for “wall paneling installer near me ” and called him. A professional installer came to our home and estimated the materials.
We ordered the goods from him and went to the market. We arrived home with the goods delivered. Since I am passionate about this work, I did it with the craftsman.
The craftsman first measured the walls. We divided the walls of this room and estimated how much wood to put in, where, and how many panels do I need. The room was 16 feet long, and 12 feet wide, and 10 feet high to the ceiling.
We divided the 16-foot wall into four sections and the 12-foot wall into three sections. Divide the walls according to the size of the panels because each panel size consisted of 4×2.5. Which we thought was right to put horizontally.
Accurate measurements are the foundation of any successful paneling project. Use a tape measure to calculate the wall height and width, and then divide it into sections to determine panel size and spacing. For precision, a calculator or online tool can simplify the math.
First, we cut the wood and marked it 4 feet vertical on the walls, drilling holes. Then, these wooden strips were installed on the walls so that the panels were protected.
We used glue and adhesive materials. This is what professional joiners use, and it’s £3 a tube. We only used two tubes, so the glue cost me £4.
.We don’t cut the panels because we do this with the craftsman. However, we cut a small bit from the panels in the last joints attached to ceiling ten. Due to fixing errors.
Use a mitre saw or a mitre box to cut corners precisely. These tools ensure the strips fit snugly together for a polished look. Minor gaps can be fixed with filler later, but aim for accuracy during this step.
Now, the process of installing the panels started, which was really delicious, along with die paneling. We installed the panels one by one. If you are interested in this process, then it’s a good opportunity for you to learn, especially for those who are keen on DIY.
For wood strips, a quality paint like Dulux Egyptian Cotton provides a sleek, modern finish. MDF panels, however, require priming before painting to prevent the surface from absorbing too much paint. Applying two to three coats ensures a vibrant, durable look. Use masking tape for clean edges, and touch up where needed for a professional result.
Walls that aren’t perfectly straight may cause uneven gaps. To fix this, use filler along the edges of the panels to create a uniform appearance.
If the layout looks off after marking, adjust the spacing slightly rather than starting over. This saves time and ensures the design remains consistent.
For wall paneling in the living room, you need to select your favorite design. Bamboo designs are best for the hallway and kitchen. From bedroom ideas to stairs and wall panels for the bathroom, you can use everywhere you want.
Panels are made from wood, fibre, wool, and some acoustic materials. All are useful for your needs.
PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is a thermoplastic resin that is one of the world’s most widely used and produced plastics. It is made from 57% salt and 43% oil or gas, and is often supplied as a powder. PVC panels are effective for DIY.
